Nice For Some Maybe Even Most, But Sadly Not My Cup of Tea

To those of you who adore Jane Austen please try not to take it personally that I did not love this book, it is not an insult to you OR her.

I have traditionally avoided the classics but made a recent resolution to try some. I made a list of a dozen or so and have had mixed results so far.

I think that my expectations were too high, I was expecting something like Jane Eyre, which I loved. Unfortunate......

I am trying to read more classics because I never really paid attention to them in high school. I started reading this one and at first I was having a hard time getting into it, it is a bit slow. But by the second half of the book I couldn't put it down. Terrific love story, literature at its finest.

Before I read this book I saw the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. I loved the movie and I was inspired instantly to read Jane Austen's classic novel. Despite the fact that I had already seen the movie and knew the general progression of events I was still captivated by the novel. Jane Austen writes with an incredible literary style that is lacking in the works of most contemporary authors. She has an eloquence of words that is complex and yet far easier to read than......

Of course Pride and Prejudice is fabulous in any form, but I do like this edition. Barnes and Noble Classics are hardcover with a nice dustjacket. Pages were a nice thickness, and what I especially liked, had that cool binding effect that makes it look like an older edition book where all the pages are different widths at the side.

Okay I saw the reviews and was concerned. But being a Ranger fan this turned out to be a pretty good book. Especially when she manages to destroy not one but two of Ranger's porsches:). "Finger Lickin Fifteen" felt like one of the between the novels storylines, silly and pointless. There was no real character development of Stephanie herself. I so love these characters, largely because they were developed so well in the first few novels of the series. Although I don't relate directly with Stephanie very often, I like her so much that she could easily be a girlfriend. But, this novel is just superficial fluff with no depth; no further character development. It's so far from any kind of reality that I can no longer relate. I've read the entire Plum series and was pleased, but not thrilled by this installment. Her early books were the best, IMO. The books have just become repetitive: a Stephanie ping-pong match between Ranger and Morelli, exploding cars, bungled apprehensions, and funny but improbable perps. A very accessible book written for everyone. Beck gives us a revised "Common Sense" for the times we now live in. Written in simple but pointed language, this book does much to refresh a mind inundated by the usual political banter by simply bringing us back to basics. It points out the various abuses of power that are constantly being perpetrated by our leadership, especially those entrusted to represent us. It also points out how in order for our Republic to last, we the people must become act......

I just finished Glenn's book today and strongly recommend it. I also finished 5000 year leap--which is also just an amazing book everyone should read. But do yourself a favor and pick up Glenn's book, it is brief and does an excellent job of laying out how those in power have corrupted and circumvented the system our founding fathers were wise enough to put in place.

Glenn Beck is a Johnny Come Lately Neo-Con in Libertarian clothing supposedly fighting for Liberty and pushing traditional american small government values once espoused by our wonderful Founding Fathers. Firstly, and I probably don't need to say this, but I will...when looking over the reviews, if they are one star and the comment is about the author and not an honest point of contention with the book, don't waste your time. Also it's very enlightening to look at folk's "other reviews".



Now Glenn's book it's probably an eye opener if you are open minded and have not been watching what's been going on in this country for some time now. So I'll rate it high as it is worthy in that resp......

Criticizing "Common Sense" by comparing it to other recent books misses the point: this book is written, as was the original, as a quick, easy-to-read, cheap to distribute call-to-arms, to reach those who do not and will not read those other books. 99% of the public have neither the patience nor the inclination to take on Levin or Ron Paul. They might read this, though, if somebody hands it to them.



That said, HAVING read this, THEN they might develop an interest in going back and rea......

Glenn Beck's name and idiotic beliefs do not deserve to be in same zip code as Thomas Paine. Conservatives are making themselves a laughingstock with clowns and these huge lapses of logic.

I think we all know that we need to trust ourselves, focus on learning, not getting angry, not focusing on results/score, and being aware of the whole golf experience, but I do not find that this book reall......

If you dont listen to Jim Hardy and are not at least a 10 handi or less you are a dummy. Sorry to be so blunt but the guy has the answer for you. Stop looking at the Golf network and get you a Jim Hardy book and DVD and go out and play the best round of your life. Your Score card will thank you and you can stop buying new equipment every year looking for those extra yards that you think you can buy when the answers only cost about 15 bucks.
